How does teeth whitening work?
Hydrogen peroxide is the most effective material for removing the internal tooth stains. When applied to the tooth, the hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and radical hydroxyl ions. As these ions work their way through the dentinal tubules (pores) and into the tooth, they attach themselves to stain particles and effectively break the stains apart. With the stains removed, the teeth are whiter and brighter.

What type of whitening does Idol White offer?
In Office/ Chair Side Whitening. We offer teeth whitening in 2-3 sessions in one sitting for maximum comfort vs. one session for long periods of time which can be uncomfortable and tireless. We use 16% Hydrogen Peroxide Gel, a very strong whitening agent in combination with a light/laser to activate the gel and begin the process. The laser does NOT whiten teeth. It merely activates the whitening gel and initiates the chemical reaction that produces the whitening effect (the laser doesn't actually penetrate the teeth).

To keep your smile bright as long as possible, try these easy tips: Follow the "White Teeth Diet" drink white wine instead of red wine, cappuccino instead of espresso, and grapefruit juice instead of cranberry juice. Use whitening at home products such as Touch-Up Pens or At Home Whitening Kits, whitening toothpaste and floss made for whitening near gums.
Can I have my teeth whitened with veneers, lumineers, caps (crowns) or bonding?
Yes, but the process will revive the initial shade when they were installed. It will NOT whiten them it will only remove impurities on the surface. Whitening agents will only work on natural tooth structure.
What are the side effects of tooth whitening?
The most common side effect of any of these procedures is sensitivity to hot and cold for 1-2 days afterwards. Our process at Idol Smile breaks up sessions, use desensitizing gels and 100% pure dental vitamin e all to help avoid sensitivity for maximum comfort.
Is teeth whitening safe or does it damage the tooth?
To our knowledge nothing detrimental has been documented and microscopic research shows no changes to the tooth surface with use of 16% whitening solution. There is no literature that we have come across showing any structural changes or irreversible damage to the tooth structure whatsoever.
How long will it take for my teeth to become their whitest?
Most teeth whiten dramatically immediately, some in just a few days, while others can take a couple of weeks. The more yellow vs. gray color you have in your teeth, the better the whitening. Grey enamel similar to that of Tetracycline (antibiotic) staining is more difficult to bleach and can take a few months to achieve a result. Results vary dependent on daily habits and maintenance.
